Oh, and here's an ok interview with Mike Nelson from October 2006 that lead me to the site. He talks about the show, the site and Road House.

Best Week Evah?
You know that show "Best Week Ever" on VH1? Well, ten days in the middle of July are shaping up to be quite an awesome stretch for me (way to jinx it, genius). Here's a rundown:
1) I have July 13th through the 20th off from work. I don't think I need to say anything else about that.
2) 7/13: I fly to Knoxville, TN to see about a dozen really good friends for some fun. I initially met them on the internets about seven years ago and we've stayed close. We get together twice a year: once in February for the Super Bowl and once in the summer. I had to miss the summer gathering last year so I can't wait for this trip. It should be a blast!
3) 7/16: I fly back to Minnesota. Yes, at this point my arms will be tired.
4) 7/18-7/20: My Under-15 boys soccer team starts playing in the USA Cup! It's only the biggest youth soccer tournament like...ever. For real. For really reals. (Actually, it's just the largest in North America.)
The website boasts that 950 teams from 20 countries are coming to the National Sports Center in Blaine. How cool is that?!? I can't wait. For the first time in a long, long time I'll be able to go watch some of the young international teams, scout some of the Under-15 competition, and just stop and watch games I have no stake in. That'll be fun too. I can't wait! Hopefully the weather won't be blazing hot...oh wait, it ALWAYS is.
5) 7/22: Guster concert with my bro at the MN Zoo. I know, I know: you're thinking that a zoo would be a terrible place to see a concert, but man when those monkeys jump in on the bongos during the encore it'll blow your mind. Seriously, it's a nice amphitheater and as long as it isn't 1000 degrees or raining, it'll be fun. (Shoot, I gotta stop jinxing myself...)
6) 7/23: Back to work. Boy, will that Monday be the SUCK or what? *shudder* I get nauseous just thinking about it.
That be it. Wow. I've never, EVER had such a solid stretch of awesome things to do in such a short amount of time. The Knoxville trip was planned months ago but the USA Cup stuff just happened to fall into place.
Have any of you had a fun stretch like that? I'm curious...

2) I think I'm getting sick, which is awesome. Wait, no...crappy. I get sick about once a year and it's normally not for long. In reality, I think I just linger in the "I think I'm getting sick" stage for a week and never really get sick enough to stay home from work. I just get tired, congested, achey and sneezy (and other assorted dwarfs).
3) Did anyone hear what Alexi Lalas said about the MLS? Check out the ESPN.com article here. I found it hilarious. He said that basically the MLS is as good as the English Premier League. Wow...I'll have what he's having. (Yeah, I just made a "When Harry Met Sally" joke...sue me.)
Seriously, I know he did it to praise the league he is a part of and generate some attention via the debate sure to follow his laughable claim...but come on. :)
4) Demetri Martin is funny. Don't believe me? Watch this long clip (14 minutes of audio with random pictures accompanying it) or this short clip (3-4 minutes of video) on YouTube. A lot of the jokes in the short clip are in the long clip so you don't really need to watch both...but you could cuz you'll laugh both times.
5) What's that? Not enough Will Ferrell in this post? Hmm, how about a not-safe-for-work clip on a not-so-safe-for-work site? Sound good? Ok, here you go.
6) This video (from the same not-so-safe-for-work site. the video itself is fine) might make you pity Mr. T. I don't, but I pity the fool who don't use Hitachi Data System Virtualization. Watch it if you're really, really bored and want to find out what the heck I'm talking about.
7) What's that? Not enough Nerf commercials from the 80's with a young Seth Green in this post? You spoke too soon, my friend. Enjoy the nostalgia. (again, same stupid not-so-safe site, the video is fine)
8) Want to see the first 8 minutes of the new Die Hard movie? Fine, here you go. Yippee ki yay...

#1: It takes one less keystroke to type "Top 5."
#2: It takes less time for you to read 5 things.
Um...so, the next one will be better...he says hopefully. I just wanted to start it now.

Fantasy soccer for reals?
A: Pretty damn cool (in theory).
Here is a Yahoo story about it that may sum it up better than I can, but I'll try anyway. Basically a man in England wants to gather up 50,000 people who will each contribute 35 pounds (roughly $70) towards the purchase of a soccer team in one of the English leagues. For those of you scoring at home, 50,000 times $70 is 3.5 million. Roughly 80% of the money goes toward the purchase of the team and the rest is administration-type fees (sounds like a convenience charge from Ticketmaster...). Sound stupid? The 33,629 people who have signed up already certainly don't think so!
Well what do you get for your $70? Well, the team wil be run BY THE 50,000 OWNERS. Everything will be voted for online by the owners: buying and selling players, how to allocate team funds (the stadium, youth programs, etc), etc.
Now, I honestly don't think something like this could work but you have to admit that it's a pretty cool idea. Fantasy sports at its finest!
John Butler Trio Concert Review
The only things I would add are:
1) The opener, KI-Theory, looked like a guy you'd see on a college campus playing guitar in a stairwell or some other random location. When I mentioned that to my brother, he replied, "I think he was doing that last night."
2) The concert was good because they brought both the noise and the funk. The guys are really good musicians and like playing together (they shot smiles at each other and had a few laughs). They jammed more than I expected (which was good) and got the crowd into it whenever they could. I thought the drummer was good before the show, but he's really, really good live. The bass player was solid too. Overall, it was a pretty darn good show, but I probably won't jump at the chance to see them the next time they come through.
3) Complaint #1: I got to play the big spoon for most of the concert. This dancing dweeb didn't understand the concept of "not standing an inch in front of someone" and I was sandwiched between him and some people behind me. I don't mind people standing close to me but this guy was flailing around and I had to constantly avoid him, which was uber annoying.
4) Complaint #2: There was one completely tone-deaf guy singing along for a good chunk of the show. It would have been funny...if it wasn't right in my ear.

Blue 42) Some funny:
-From the Onion #1: Least Popular Alcoholic Drinks graphic. A tall, frosty Creamed Corn and Vodka sounds quite tasty...er wait...no...
-From the Onion #2: Read this. It's funny and you'll laugh. It may not be 100% safe for work (sfw) as there are a lot of f-bombs in it, so read it at your own risk.
-Mayhaps you have seen this, but this Bud commercial is funny enough to watch again even if you have. It's full of bleeped swearing, so it should be sfw.
Blue 42) Road construction:
Ok, I know we have two seasons here in Minnesota, winter and road construction, but seriously: I've been working at my current job for almost two years now and for about 75% of that time, the road I take to work has been under some sort of construction. They repaved and widened half of my 4-mile section and even though that has been done for MONTHS, they still have parts of it closed periodically for various things (more landscaping, painting, nothing...).
What bugs me the most is that they made the road wide enough for two lanes in each direction but, for one mile of it, restrict it to one lane for no raisin! The entire stretch of road (extending well beyond the 4 miles I drive every day) is two lanes except where they created a rarely-used turn lane at a few intersections. It's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen because it causes unnecessary congestion at the merge points (it's like ragweed for the road) and they DESIGNED it this way!
I realize my commute is 4 miles and I don't have to get on a highway so I should shutup...but this road project was poorly planned and poor planning makes Homer something something.
Hut) Speaking of no-talent wastes of space...Paris Hilton is out of jail already. Phew, that's a load off my mind. I wasn't able to sleep the last few nights knowing she was incarcerated.
Hut) Movie Reviews
I realized this morning that they are short and lack specific info, but I don't think I should talk about the entire movie if someone hasn't seen it. There are plenty of reviews you can check out elsewhere online. I go through 2-4 Netflix movies per week so I'm just going to share whether or not I enjoyed it and a few things I did or didn't enjoy. After a few, you might get a feel for whether or not you'll like a movie based on how I rate it.
Hike!) Concert preview: The John Butler Trio
My brother and I are going to see this band out of Austrailia tonight at First Ave. They are a funky, jazzy group that remind me of a little of Ben Harper, without the good lyrics and voice. These guys are talented musicians, though - I'm hoping for some good jams. They are touring to support Grand National, their new album. I haven't warmed up to it all yet, but there are a few good songs on it.
The man can play a mean guitar: Check out an instrumental song of his called "Ocean." Check out their Myspace page: If you listen to Funky Tonight and don't move some part of your body along with the music, you have issues. For another video, check out Good Excuse from a late-night show from Austrailia (I'm guessing).
Concert recap tomorrow!
Movie Review
This is not a typical war movie. While there is some, it's not full of action; it's about the danger, stress, and frustration of being deployed and leaving your loved ones behind. I didn't think any of the performances were all that extraordinary (I'm not a huge Jake Gyllenhaal fan), but I always like Peter Sarsgaard and Jamie Foxx.
As a side note: Thomas Newman did the music and I can usually pick it out, but I missed it this time. Check out his imdb page and I guarantee you've seen one of his movies.

Movie Review
I had a tough time deciding how to rate this movie. By my own system, I was somewhere between a 3 and a 4. I really enjoyed it. I thought Hilary Swank was outstanding and Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman were pretty darn good. It totally sucked me in. I started watching it at about 11:45 with the intent of just watching a little bit before bed...and here it is at 2:00 and I'm not even mad that I stayed up to watch it. That said, I don't necessarily need to see it again any time soon and probably won't buy it.
It would at least be a 3 since I really enjoyed it but if I take the performances into account, it pushes it up to a solid 4/5. Yep, sticking with a 4.

PMD
Only a few more weeks until hockey season so it's time to hit the batting cages...
2) Bill Simmons had a column full of links today. One was to an article about Bo Jackson. It was a very intersting read. I wish Bo Knew YouTube so we could watch more highlights of his stuff. Ok, I did found this clip from a run in his college days. He goes 75 yards in about 8 seconds. (The coolest part of the clip might be Keith Jackson saying "in your face.")
I also stumbled upon this article discussing why Bo is the greatest athlete ever. (PS the site is one of the most cluttered sites I've ever seen lol, but it's worth the read)
3) Since Ben called me twice (maybe more, I blacked out) to talk about the Futurama episode he was watching, I had to look up some more YouTube clips to share.
-Ted, I can't think of a good raisin not to post this clip.
-I just love this one for the end.
-Oh snap!
-I knew I should have shown you the one for electric gonorrhea: the noisy killer.
(Ahh blogs...at least I'm having fun with this...)
4) Quick movie review of Traffic (3/5)
It was decent...and that's all I got. Benecio Del Toro was good and I always like Don Cheadle...but I don't have much else to say. Maybe I should give it a 2 lol.

PMD
And to think I hated this stuff when my brother tried to tell me it was funny. It just goes to show that I'm an idiot and should listen to my brother. There could be a whole post of things Ben tried to introduce me to that I've poo-pooed at first and grown to love later. (Yeah, I just said "poo-pooed")
One thing that wouldn't be on that list? The Freddy Jones Band. They still suck, Ben.
2) Speaking of being an idiot, I might be the dumbest Bunnies player ever. In a late night game last night, I had a commanding lead in several respects (mainly 14 carrots). On the last play of the game, I lost my only remaining bunny because I was dumb enough to not use three cards in my hand on that turn or previous turns to prevent it.
I guess I can take comfort in the fact that with my luck I probably would have lost anyway (we didn't confirm the winning carrot was one of the 14 I had) because let's face it: a 70% chance of winning just isn't high enough for me.
3) If you have no idea what I just said in #2, gather up some friends, buy Killer Bunnies, and play. You'll enjoy it...unless you're smrt like me in which case you'll keep playing even though you've won like 3 games out of 100.
4) I wasted some time this weekend (and subsequently some of Ted's time) with a classic: Baseball Stars. I randomly had a desire to play it so I found an emulator and the rom (you can find an emulator here and the Baseball Stars rom here) and went to town. And yes, it's as addicting as it was 15 years ago.
The AI might leave a little to be desired. I'm no baseball expert, but pinch hitting for a guy who is hitting over .800 in a series and trying to bunt guys over with two outs are not great tactical moves.
5) Before the Bunnies games last night, we were watching the MTV movie awards and I have to give props for a good joke. The first performer was Rihanna with Jay-Z singing her song Umbrella-ella-ella-ella-ella-ella-ella-ella...whoops, sorry, the record was skipping. Anyway, during the song, my friend Matt came to the insightful realization that "As a society, we miiiight have run out of things to rap about." I have to agree with ya there, Matt.
6) That's all I got for now. Have a great start to the week everyone.

PMD
1) When you think about it, what's more rediculous than rap lyrics? This. This is funnier.
C) Are you familiar with the Travis song "Why Does it Always Rain on Me?" Well my car wrote a new song and it's called "Why Do Birds Always Poop on Me?" Twice in one week! *sigh*
Eleventeen) Have a great weekend everyone!
R.I.P Battlestar Galactica
At least they are going out on their own terms. Hell, Firefly only got twelve or thirteen episodes and it is still one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen.
A beautiful day for soccer...
They still have a lot of things to work on: everybody ball-watches waaaaay too much and the defensive marking is still bad and a good team will absolutely pick them apart. However, they played really well offensively, made some necessary improvements in communication, and had a much-needed "fun" game.
The one thing I'm frustrated with is getting through to one player in particular. He's a physically gifted kid with serious wheels, but he reacts poorly to everything I say (both good and bad). I'm not sure what to do about it besides keep trying and keep my comments as positive as possible. He can be a really, really good defender if he just learns a few more basic things.
Anyway, they're 1-3 now and hopefully will keep up the momentum!
Movie Reviews
Tom Cruise plays a believable bad guy and Jamie Foxx was great as a "good guy in a bad situation." I could describe this movie as a "gritty thrill-ride", but instead I'll say that Tom Cruise is a hitman and Jamie Foxx is along for the ride.
Also, I love it when music fits well within a movie (which is why I'll watch anything Cameron Crowe makes) and the placement of Audioslave's Shadow of the Sun was excellent. I was getting tired while watching it and this song kept me awake.
2) Three Days of the Condor (3/5)
Robert Redford is excellent as an employee of the CIA who "just reads books." A theory of his that no one believes gets in the wrong hands and hilarity ensues. Ok, not hilarity: his fellow bookworms get bumped off while he is out to lunch (how convenient!) and he gets wrapped up in a deadly game of espionage. (Ok, I just wanted to say "deadly game of espionage")
Max Von Sydow is his usual semi-creepy, no-nonsense bad guy. You might remember him from such films as Minority Report and Strange Brew. (Oh, and Victory!)
It's not flashy, but it's solid. If you're in the mood for a 1975 spy movie, check this one out.
